In Scholar, students are only able to see courses which have been set to “available”. Courses are initially set to “unavailable” so that instructors can prepare course shells before releasing them, and to make it obvious to students which of their courses are not using any of the Blackboard functions.

In addition, some instructors may want to make a course “unavailable” at the end of the semester, or if major revisions are being made to the course. Ultra now has two options for these situations, which provide different levels of access:

The simplest way to make your course available or unavailable is to use the locking option in your Courses list. Locked courses will have a lock icon on the front (shown below in both tile and list view). Select the three-dots icon (on the top right in tile view, in the far right in list view) and select "Open Course".

You can also make this change from inside the course in question via the Details and Actions menu. When a course is Locked, the option will read "Course is Private", along with a link that says "Students can't access this course". Clicking the link will open a mini-window that allows you to open the course to students.
