Introduction

The "CNU-Res" wireless network is available in all residence halls for the purpose of connecting devices such as; Gaming Consoles, Streaming Media Players, SmartTVs, and other IoT devices. In order to connect these devices to the wireless network "CNU-Res" please follow the steps below. The "CNU-Res" wireless network will NOT support computers, smart phones, or tablets; please continue to connect those devices to eduroam for internet access.

Steps for Connecting your device to "CNU-Res"

Note

Please note - you must be connected to eduroam in order to access the "CNU-Res" device registration page.

  • Username = Enter your CNU email address

  • Password = CNU Account Password

Registration Page

(Step #2) Create Device

  • Device Name = Enter a name of your choice

  • Device Type = From the dropdown menu select the correct device type

  • MAC Address = Enter your device's "WiFi" MAC Address

    • For assistance finding the MAC Address of your device please visit your manufacturers support website 

  • Click the "Submit" button when finished

Note

Students are permitted to register up to five devices only.

Create Device

(Step #3) Record the "Connection Instructions"

  • After clicking the submit button you will be presented with important information required for connecting to the "CNU-Res" wireless network. You will need this information when connecting your device to the wireless network.

  • Connect to the wireless network: CNU-Res

    • Security type = WPA2-Personal

    • Encryption type = AES

  • Encryption "Preshared Key" = *************

Record Connection Instructions

(Step #4) Connecting your Streaming Media Player to "CNU-Res"

  • Remember! You will need the connection instructions from the step above to connect your device to the wireless network "CNU-Res"

AppleTV

  • If your Apple TV has an Ethernet port, make sure your Apple TV isn't connected to an Ethernet cable. If you're using an Ethernet cable, you won't see the option to connect to Wi-Fi

  • Go to Settings > Network, then choose a the "CNU-Res" network to join

  • When prompted, enter the Pre-Shared Key "WiFi Password" provided to you when you registered your device

Roku

  • When you turn on your Roku streaming player or Roku TV for the first time, your device will automatically prompt you to establish a connection to the internet over Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable

  • Select Wireless for Wi-Fi connections

  • Select the "CNU-Res" wireless network from the list of available Wi-Fi networks. If you do not see the network, select Scan again to see all networks

  • When prompted, enter the Pre-Shared Key provided to you when you registered your device

Chromecast

  • Follow manufacture setup procedures found here - LINK

  • Download the Google Home app on your Chromecast-supported Android device

  • Open the Google Home app Google Home appImage Modified

  • Follow the steps

    • If you don’t find the steps to set up your Chromecast:

      1. At the top left of the Google Home app home screen, tap Add

         New device.

      2. Follow the remaining steps.

      3. Setup is successful. You're all done!

Fire TV

  • Check the network status on your Fire TV device:

    1. Go to Settings Image Modified.

    2. Select Network Image Modified.

    3. Find your the "CNU-Res' network name.

    4. Press Play/Pause Image Modified on your remote to see your network status and follow the recommended steps.

  • When prompted, enter the Pre-Shared Key "WiFi Password" provided to you when you registered your device
