Loaner Technology Request / Access
Faculty and Staff ONLY
At this time, CNU IT Services provides loaner devices exclusively to faculty and staff. If you are a faculty or staff member in need of a loaner, please follow the instructions below to submit a request.
Requesting a Loaner
Please submit a ticket via help.cnu.edu to CNU IT Services requesting assistance with your current device or asking for a loaner device via the following category: “Desktop > Computer Issue / Request.”
Once the ticket is submitted under the correct category, you will receive an automated email prompting you to review and accept the terms and conditions for borrowing equipment. As part of this process, you’ll be asked to select your preferred computer type: macOS, Windows, or ChromeOS.
After completing the electronic signature form, a technician or help desk associate will contact you to confirm a time for you to pick up the device.
Once the agreed-upon loan term has been reached, you will be promptly emailed a reminder to return the device.
Windows - Sign-in Process
The initial sign-in must be performed while the computer is physically located on campus.
All Windows computers at CNU are configured to recognize your CNU ID and password. As long as your credentials are entered correctly, you will be able to log in.
macOS - Sign-in Process
The only requirement is that the computer must be connected to the internet during the initial sign-in.
While macOS devices function a bit differently than Windows machines, you’ll still use your CNU email address and password to sign in through Single Sign-On (SSO) during setup. These devices don’t use your CNU ID for the initial local login in the same way Windows computers do, but they are still connected to the CNU network.
How to Login:
Use your CNU email address first to start the sign-in process.
Use your CNU email password at the login prompt that follows.
From there, a local account will be created. Please be patient, as all computers are different, and setting up your account may take a few minutes.
Considerations:
While macOS offers many features that users can benefit from, we’ve restricted specific capabilities, such as iCloud sign-ins and the ability to download specific applications, to help maintain the intended functionality and security of the device during the loan period.
ChromeOS - Sign-in Process
Chrome OS devices are fully cloud-based and require a network connection to function correctly. They provide access primarily to tools within the Google ecosystem, such as Google Meet, Docs, Slides, Gmail, Calendar, and more.
How to log in:
Sign in with your CNU Email address and password.
You will be prompted to complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), after which the device will launch into ChromeOS.
Considerations:
ChromeOS devices are intended for use while connected to the internet. Although you can download files locally, we do not recommend doing so, as the device is optimized for online use.
Access to extensions and apps is limited on ChromeOS, and these devices are primarily designed to work with applications in the Google ecosystem, such as Google Docs, Slides, Meet, Gmail, and Calendar.
