Connecting Personal Devices to eduroam for Students, Faculty, and Staff

Introduction to eduroam

Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam is available at thousands of institutions worldwide, see link for a full list of eduroam participants Where can I eduroam? - eduroam.org .

Christopher Newport is proud to offer eduroam network access across the entire campus for Students, Faculty, Staff, and Visitors! 

Connecting to the eduroam wireless network will allow access to campus resources. Please follow the steps below when connecting to the eduroam wireless network, once you have successfully connected to eduroam on campus, you may connect to the eduroam wireless network while visiting at any participating institution. 

 


Connecting a CNU Owned Device

Any device owned and maintained by Christopher Newport University will be configured for eduroam access; Students, Faculty, or Staff are not required to authenticate to eduroam on CNU owned devices. If you are having network connectivity issues with a CNU owned device please visit the IT Services help desk located in the Trible Library or submit a ticket online at help.cnu.edu.

 


Connecting a Personal Device to eduroam

Verify your devices is connected to the internet via cellular service or you can connect to CNU’s Guest WiFi network “CNU-Guest”.

Once you have internet access, open a browser (i.e. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) and navigate to CONNECT.CNU.EDU

If you’re using an iPhone, navigate to CONNECT.CNU.EDU using Safari.

Click the "Begin eduroam Setup" link to download and install the Christopher Newport University Certificate Profile from SecureW2.

Troubleshooting

Apple Management Configuration Profile Removal

In most cases, if you are unable to successfully connect to eduroam, forget the network and wait 10 minutes before reconnecting. If you are using an Apple device and are unable to forget the network you may have a device “Management Configuration Profile” that needs to be removed, see the below steps on how to remove a profile from your iPhone and/or MAC.

Android WiFi Settings

If you chose to authenticate to eduroam using a username and password please ensure the following settings are configured as shown below.

  • Security: 802.1x EAP

  • EAP method: PEAP

  • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

  • CA certificate: Use System Certificate

  • Online Certificate Status: Do Not Verify

  • Minimum TLS Version: TLS v2.0

  • Identity: "Enter your CNU email address"

  • Anonymous Identity: "leave blank"

  • Password: "Enter the password associated with your CNU email address"

  • Domain Name: Christopher Newport University
