macOS Sonoma
There are known issues with SPSS support on macOS Sonoma. IBM has documented the issue in detail here. It must be noted that the patches for SPSS on Sonoma are exclusively available from IBM, and are not provided by CNU. Navigate to the "Fix for macOS Sonoma" link located in the table of contents.

Getting SPSS
To download SPSS, Follow the link provided here. If you’re already signed in to CNU Connect, you’ll be taken directly to the folder containing the relevant files. If not, you’ll see the Google sign-in page. Sign in with your CNU e-mail and password. Once you have accessed the folder, select the file for the relevant operating system and download the file.
As the SPSS installer is a large file, you may get a warning that Google Drive cannot scan the file for viruses. Since this is a trusted CNU drive, click “Download anyway,” and the file will download.
Installing SPSS
- Navigate to where you downloaded the file and click IBM_SPSS_STATISTICS_29_64-BIT_Win.exe or IBM_SPSS_STATISTICS_29_32-BIT_Win.exe. If you aren’t already logged in as an administrator, you’ll be prompted to enter an administrator’s credentials.
- The installer will start. Click Next.
- You’ll be presented with a license agreement. Accept the agreement and click Next.
- You’ll be asked if you want to install SPSS Statistics Essentials for Python. Click yes or no and click Next. If you don’t know what Python is, you can click no.
- If you install Python, you must accept two more license agreements and click Next.
- Either way, you’ll be asked where to install SPSS. Unless you have a reason to install it somewhere other than the default, click Next.
- Then, click Install to begin the installation.
- The installation will start. It will take a few minutes.
- When it completes, you’ll be given the option to start the SPSS License Authorization Wizard. Make sure the box is checked and click Finish.
- The License Authorization Wizard will start. Choose “Concurrent user license” and click Next.
- On the next screen, enter equity.cnu.edu in the box and click Next.
- You’ll see a message that your license has been applied. Click Finish.

Click on your download, and double-click SPSS_Statistics_Installer.
You’ll receive a notification that the installer was downloaded from the Internet. Click Open.
If you aren’t logged in to your computer as an administrator, you’ll be prompted to enter an administrator username and password.
Next, the installer will appear. Choose the language which you want to use to install SPSS and click OK.
Click Next.
Accept the license agreement and click next again.
You’ll be asked whether or not you want to install SPSS for Python. In order for the Commuter License tool to work, choose Yes here.
If you choose yes for Python, you’ll have to accept two more license agreements.
You’ll be asked where to install SPSS. The default is good, so click Next.
Then, click Install.
The install will start. When it’s finished, you’ll have the option to run the license wizard. Make sure the box is checked and click Done.
The License Wizard will start. Click Next.
On the next screen, choose “Concurrent user license” and click Next.
In the box that comes up, enter equity.cnu.edu and click Next..
Click Finish, and your license will be applied.
SPSS will then function. If you want to use SPSS off-campus, you’ll need to check out a license using the SPSS Commuter Utility.
macOS Sonoma FIX
This patch is only supported in SPSS 29. Versions 28 and older will not be fixed with this patch. *1
Identify the exact version of SPSS you are running by navigating within SPSS to SPSS Statistics → About SPSS Statistics → Release/Build information. An example release number is “25.0.0.2”.
Download the interim fix for your specific version of SPSS.
