All question types now support adding images to test questions, and the following types support images in the answer choice fields as well:

  • Matching
  • Multiple Answer
  • Multiple Choice

(Note: It is strongly recommended that all instructors ensure that they have the rights to use any images used in their course. Using copyrighted material without permission is discouraged. If you are searching for an image online to download and use in your course, use the appropriate search filters to ensure that your image falls within the Creative Commons).

Once an image is stored on your computer, you can add it to your course by locating the picture on your computer using a File Explorer window, then dragging and dropping the file into the text box of the test question. The image will load, then a window with several options will open:

1. You will be required to add a Display name to the image as an identifier.
2. You will also have the option to turn on or off alternative text, and a field to write the alternative text. For accessibility reasons, we strongly recommend you provide descriptive alternative text any time you insert an image into your content. Please ensure any alternative text does not give away the answer to the test question the image is in, as this text will be visible to students.
3. You can determine how students interact with the image file–namely, whether they can view and/or download the image.

When you have chosen your desired settings, click Save to insert the image into your test question.
