Deciding whether to Merge
Merging has both advantages and disadvantages. It allows you to only have to manage one Scholar shell, set of assignments, Grade Center, and other materials. It is especially useful when you have several courses and you post materials throughout the semester.
However, there are some disadvantages. If you have already created a lot of content in your non-merged courses, it will not transfer to the merged one. You will have to copy it over. Additionally, you will lose the ability to distinguish between your merged sections for the purposes of due dates and communication (although you WILL be able to see the different sections in the Grade Center).
Merging your Courses
To merge your courses, fill out this form.
In the Courses to Merge section, be sure to include the course number, section number, and if you have it, the CRN. Please note that ITS does not have the times of courses, so we won't be able to make a course merge based on that.
Once ITS receives your merge request, we will process it within one business day. If we are unsure about the courses that you intend to merge, we will contact you to clarify. Once we have the courses, we will merge them in Scholar and you will receive a notification from our Customer Service Desk system. That will let you know that your courses are merged.
After the Merge
After you merge your course, you'll be able to see your merged course in the course list. You will no longer be able to view your child courses; as a result, we recommend you download any materials you need from those courses before making the merge request.
You are also able to view which section a student is in from within the Grade Center. This is useful when you're entering final grades into CNU Live.
Student View
Unlike with the existing merge tool, students will see the course name and ID of the pre-merged course. However, when they click on it, they will see the content of the merged course.
Unmerging
If you wish to have your course unmerged, contact Will White at william.white@cnu.edu or 594-8236. Please note that any content placed in the merged course will no longer be available to students in the unmerged sections.
