Image organization
In the _images
site, images are organized by primary subject matter:
_homepage
- Images sized for the homepage
_logo
- Logos that are required for use anywhere on the website
- Can include both the official university brand and those of sponsors of events.
- Logo images for styleguide live in this folder. The styleguide files are an exception and are named by content type not size.
_maps
- Campus maps
- These do not have a set size, they are simply the original files. These will eventually be moved to documents site once it is established
_nopic
- Generic no picture option
_people
- Faculty and staff headshots
- If inset-landscape or inset portrait images are needed for Faculty/Staff, they should be housed in the same folder so it’s easy to find all images of said employee
_placeholder
- Generic placeholder image for use when staging a page before images are available
alm
- Alumni
- All alumni portraits/headshots are filed in this folder, regardless of where they will be used on the website
- Folder naming convention: XX-first_last (XX for last two digits of class year)
aos
- Areas of Study
- Environmental shots with faculty and students (i.e. classroom shots) go under the respective departments
- Departments are listed by their four letter identifier (i.e. History = hist)
ath
- Athletics
- Organized by sport abbreviation
cam
- Campus
- Campus images organized by primary building/area
don
- Donors
- Images of donors that are not employees/alumni/students
lif
- Campus life
- Images/B-Roll from happenings on campus organized by the event title/type
news
- News story images
- Images specific to a news story that wouldn’t have a use elsewhere on the site (i.e. PCSE Women Engineers group shot goes in
news
, sorority bid day goes inlif/greeklife/bidday
) - This folder structure should somewhat mirror the news site. We are still determinig what is thet best way to organize these photos
pub
- Publications
- Covers of Undergraduate and Graduate catalogs for use in funnels in the public documents section of the website
stock
- Stock images
- These are images purchased through iStockphoto that are needed for the website
- Naming convention: be specific about photo content without being overly detailed
stu
- All student portraits/headshots are filed in this folder, regardless of where they will be used on the website
- Folder naming convention: XX-first_last (XX for last two digits of class year)
- After commencement, the folders of students who have graduated are moved to
alm
and must be republished

- Still images for lazy-load video embeds
- Folder naming convention: department or event-video_subject (i.e.
