Document Camera Guide
As of Summer 2025, All instructional spaces will be equipped with Epson ALPDC13 or ALPDC21 Document cameras. These cameras will replace the existing document cameras in the lecterns, as well as serve as a flexible webcamera option for all classrooms. This document camera consists of a jointed arm containing the camera head, and a base with button controls. This arm can be rotated and bent into a number of positions, allowing the camera to be used at any angle.
The base contains a number of buttons that can be used to control the camera:
The Power button. Used to turn the camera on and off.
The Image source.
The Menu button. Most users will likely not need to use the Menu during regular usage, as it controls camera settings that will already be optimized for the classroom environment by default.
A navigator for the Menu, along with an Enter button for selecting menu options. The navigator can also be used to adjust the camera light quality.
The Escape button, used for exiting the menu.
The Zoom buttons. Can be used to zoom in and out of the camera image.
The Capture and Record buttons. Can be used to take either a still (Capture) or moving (Record) record of the camera image.
The Freeze button. Pressing this button once will freeze the camera and display a static image from the moment the button was pressed; pressing it a second time will 'un-freeze' the camera and return to a live image.
The Focus button. While the Epsom camera defaults to auto-focusing, this button can be pressed if an image does not automatically set the image in view within focus, for force the focusing process to adjust.
The webcamera light can be switched on and off via a switch on the camera head.
While the Capture and Record options are left accessible, faculty will need to provide their own storage for any images captured or recorded before the camera's features can be used. Storage can be utilized via SD card, or by connecting a personal device like a laptop (the recommended method.)
The majority of classrooms will be equipped with the ALPDC13 model, which includes a camera setting that allows users to switch between landscape and portrait orientations. Faculty can switch these orientations by twisting the grey ring around the camera lens.
Lab classrooms will be provided with the ALPDC21 model, which comes with a microscope adapter attachment which will allow users to use the document camera to project images from a microscope. To do so, attach the adapter to the camera end of the doc cam head via the wide opening, then attach the narrow end of the adapter to the microscope viewpiece.
