Copy courses in Scholar
This document is about copying course content for Original view Scholar course. For copying content into an Ultra course, refer to the documentation here.
Each semester, course shells are created for you automatically based on the Registrar's data on CNU courses. Each course gets a course shell. Past semesters remain in the system for 2 years after the course is over. This gives you plenty of time to choose which materials you would like to re-use.
Log into the system and enter the course that contains the material you would like to move into another course shell.
On the control panel, click Packages and Utilities and select Course Copy
On the ensuing page, you can only select "Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course" under the Select Copy Type menu..
By making this selection a browse button becomes available in section two of the page. Select the Browse Button.
The "Browse" button will open a window with a searchable list of your courses. Choose the course you would like to send content to by clicking the radio button to the left of the course name.
Choose the course you would like to send content to by clicking the radio button to the left of the course name.
Now hit submit in that 'courses' window.
The window will close and leave you at the "Copy Course" page. Use the check boxes below "Select Course Materials" to choose what content to move over into the new course shell. Check everything you want to move.
IMPORTANT: If you are copying from a course on the previous theme (identifiable by a blue course menu), you must make sure “Navigation Settings” is unchecked.
Do not select Adaptive Release Rules if you set up specific rules for students, any rules referring to students may not perform as expected
If you are copying over assignments, you MUST include:
- The content area with the assignment
- Grade Center Columns and Settings
If you are copying over tests, you MUST include:
- The content area with the test
- Grade Center Columns and Settings
- Tests, Surveys, and Pools
You can usually leave “Copy links and copies of the content” checked. If you have files that are in your course, but not made visible to students through the Scholar system (including files linked to in HTML documents), choose “Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder)”.
Hit ‘submit’ and you’ll receive a message indicating that an email will notify you of successful completion of the process. You should receive this email when the copy is complete. Normally this takes only a few minutes.
After receiving the email, go back to "My Courses". Select the course that should now have the copied content and confirm that it is there.
