Use content collection files in courses in Scholar
This article discusses using Content Collection files in Original View courses in Scholar. For adding files to content in an Ultra course, refer to the documentation hub here.
Using Content Collection Files in Courses
Files from the Content Collection can be used anywhere in Scholar that you can use a file uploaded from your computer. Simply create the file, item, test question or other content as normal.
Next to the “Browse My Computer” button, you’ll now see a “Browse Content Collection” button. Click on that button to access the Content Collection.
A popup window will appear that will allow you to select the file or files that you’d like to use. By default it will show the course files for the course that you are currently in. You can access the other folders by hovering your mouse over the “Browse” tab.
Once you’ve located the content that you want to attach, click the checkbox next to the item and click “Submit”.
Items attached in the course will be visible to students based on your availability settings. You do not need to give students access to your content folders to allow them to view items posted in class.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Attaching items in the content collection to things in your class merely links to the content collection; it does not copy the files. This means:
- Any changes made to the file will be reflected in all places where it’s attached.
- If the file is deleted, the link will break
- Course folders in the content collection are deleted when the courses are deleted. You should not link to previously-used course files in your course. Instead, put reusable material in your “My Content” folder.
- Other faculty members can give you access to items in their “My Content”. However, should they leave the university, these materials will no longer be available. Institution folders are more suitable for shared content, as they are available unless they are specifically deleted.
