Single-Item Columns in the Gradebook in Ultra Courses
While the Gradebook is designed with Scholar-based assignments and assessments in mind, it is possible to create your own custom columns in the Gradebook. Some of these columns can be created to hold a grade for a singular item not submitted through Scholar.
Note: You do not need to create a column for an assignment in the Gradebook if you have already created that Assignment in the Content feed, as the act of creating that assignment will automatically create a gradebook column. To learn how to create Assignments, refer to our documentation here.
To create a single-item column, navigate to the full Gradebook and click the plus icon between two items(the item will be created between the two) . In the resulting dropdown, click Add Item.Â
A sidebar will open that allows you to dictate the title of the column, as well as provide the settings for that column.Â
Underneath the description, you will be provided with a series of dropdowns:Â
- The first dropdown dictates the visibility of the column.Â
- The Due Date fields allow you to set a due date for the item being graded in that column. This is a required field in Ultra Courses, where it was not in the original Gradebook.Â
- The Grade Using column dictates the format in which the grade in the column will be displayed. The default display is a raw score in points, but includes other formats such as percentages; however, it is generally recommended that instructors avoid entering grades as letter grades. You will also be required to fill in a Maximum Points field with the number of points the item is worth.Â
- The Category dropdown can be used to sort this column into a group of columns based on categories. Grades made via the Tests and Assignments tools are automatically sorted into the Tests and Assignments categories respectively; however, custom columns must have their category set manually. Categories are useful when creating a Weighted Total Calculated Column later on. Â
- The last field allows you to add a description of what the column is used to grade.Â
When you are finished completing the column, click Save. The item will then be added to your Gradebook.Â
